Creative Writing with people with Mental Health issues
This workshop was aimed at creative writing tutors and writers with an interest in working in mental health settings or those already working in the field who want to share their skills and develop new ones.
The workshop looked at the issues around artistic work with people diagnosed as having a psychiatric illness, both in mental health and generic settings, including an overview of mental ill health in the UK, safety issues when working in psychiatric settings and some practical dos and don’ts. The session also examined planning sessions and targeting specific client groups, using a recent visual art/performance poetry project in Leicester as a case study.
The workshop was held in October 2006, at the Idea Store, Whitechapel
